Shyh-Charng Lo was born in Japan, raised in Taiwan,
and immigrated to Canada in 1974.
He was educated in Anthropology at the National
Taiwan University (1970), received his MA at the University of British
Columbia (1977) and a Masters of Museum Studies from the University of
Toronto (1983). A self-taught painter, he left a position at the Royal
Ontario Museum in 1989 to pursue a career in art. He has exhibited
widely, including such galleries as Art Beatus Gallery in Vancouver,
Gallery OM in Japan, Caves Art Centre in Taiwan and the Macau Museum of
Art.
Shyh-Charng Lo strives to use his paintings as an
expression of his mood. His color-rich softly muted landscapes are
created based on the feelings and sentiment his holds for the world
around him. Loosely depicting images of mountains and water, Lo's
paintings abandon realism and meditate on his relationship with his
surroundings, articulating a perspective of inner peace, serenity and
sometimes solitude.
