Arabel Luk

 

 

Brief  Biographical Information of  Artist Arabel Luk :

Arabel Luk was born in early 1950, grew up in Hong Kong, her father was a general manager of a small dyes store in Central District.  She loves playing with pigments ever since  little. Drawing/painting has become her sweet way of expression in early childhood.  Always first in art in schools.   Graduated secondary from Ho Tung Technical School for Girls with majors in Art and Pottery in 1969. She was one of the ten graduates of  Third Year Art from Grantham College of education  in 1971.  Won scholarship and further study teaching art to children with special needs in University of Manchester UK in 1976-1977.  Learn Chinese Landscape painting and Sung Style Elaborate painting independently under masters Siu Lap-Sing and Tong Huang in early 70’s. At the age of 15 worked as an on-glaze designer for Lanecawford after school. Started art teaching profession at a government subsized secondary  before turning twenty-one. Been teaching art/pottery to hearing impaired children for years. Served as a full-time art/design lecturer at Sir Robert Black College of Education, Northcote  College of Education and HK Institute of Ed. For more than twelve years before immigration to Canada in 1995.

 

Currently, teach a teenage Saturday art class at Evergreen Cultural Centre, Studio B in Coquitlam though out academic year.  And is a volunteer member sitting in the Visual Art Committee, Evergreen Cultural Centre, Coquitlam.

 

Have been living in Coquitlam for twelve years.  Member of Port Moody Art Association and National Art Education Association since 1996.   Participated various art exhibitions, mostly group shows in HK and a few group shows in Tri-cities, BC.  The most recent show:  2006 Teacher & Student Art Exhibition at Terry Fox Library, Port Coquitlam

Likes to work with mixed media and Chinese media alternatively.  Subjects are plants and houses mostly,  especially fascinated by the growth of peonies and tree blossoms in spring time in Vancouver.  Previous painting, ‘Plum Blossom 2006’ on Chinese media  is her expression of  guqin music – Triple Thematic Statement of Plum Blossoms.
